Exams are crucial for preventive care, early disease detection, and overall health management.

There are generally three main types of veterinary exams:

  • Wellness Exams (Preventative Care Exams): These are routine check-ups, typically recommended annually or twice a year for senior pets or those with chronic conditions. The primary goals are to:

    • Monitor Overall Health: Assess your pet's weight, temperature, eyes, ears, teeth, mouth, skin, coat, heart, lungs, and abdomen. The veterinarian will also check for any lumps, pain, or abnormalities.

    • Administer Vaccinations: Ensure your pet is up-to-date on core and lifestyle-dependent vaccines to protect against common diseases.

    • Preventative Care: Discuss and administer parasite prevention (fleas, ticks, heartworms).

    • Early Detection: Identify potential health issues before they become serious. Even if your pet seems healthy, underlying problems can develop silently.

    • Behavioral and Lifestyle Discussion: The veterinarian will ask about your pet's diet, exercise, thirst, and elimination habits to catch any subtle changes.

  • Sick Appointments (Diagnostic Exams): These are for pets showing signs of illness or injury. The veterinarian will perform a thorough examination focused on the symptoms presented

  • Medical Progress Exams: These are follow-up appointments to assess the recovery and progress of a pet undergoing treatment for a specific condition, such as post-surgery, managing skin disorders, or healing from infections.
